How to download Instagram stories on iPhone and Android
Updated · 2 min read
There are two different cases when downloading Instagram stories: your own story, and someone else's. For your own, Instagram's built-in features are enough. For someone else's public story, you need a download tool.
Below we walk through both cases on iPhone, Android and computer.
Saving your own story
- 1Open your story while it's live and tap the three dots (⋯) at the bottom right.
- 2Tap "Save". The story is saved to your phone's gallery.
- 3For an expired story, open Archive from the menu on your profile, find the story and save it the same way.
- 4To save every story automatically, turn on "Save story to camera roll" (or "to gallery" on Android) in your story settings.
Menu names can differ a little between app versions. Some stories with licensed music may not save with the sound, for copyright reasons.
Downloading someone else's story on iPhone
- 1Open our tool in Safari and type the public account's username.
- 2Tap Download under the story you want.
- 3The file is saved to the Downloads folder in the Files app.
- 4In Files, open the file, tap the share icon and choose "Save Video" or "Save Image". It now shows up in Photos.
Downloading someone else's story on Android
- 1Open our tool in Chrome and type the username.
- 2Tap Download under the story.
- 3Tap the download notification to open the file. It's also in your Downloads folder, and usually in your Gallery.
Downloading on a computer
Open the tool in any browser, type the username and click Download. The file goes to your browser's default download folder.
If a video won't play
Instagram serves some videos in newer formats like VP9 or AV1. Older iPhones may not play them. The file is still downloaded, and you can open it in a video player that supports the format.
Respect the owner's rights
Keep other people's stories for personal use only. Don't repost them without permission, and respect the rights of the person who made them.
